Programs for grade primary to 12
Regional Educators Program (REP)
Initiated by the Black Learners Advisory Committee and sponsored by the African Canadian Services Division, the Regional Educators Program for African Nova Scotians was developed to empower parents and to ensure that all African Nova Scotian Learners have access to an equitable learning experience through the development, delivery and support of educational programs and services. The program works within their community to provide support, awareness, and liaison with schools as it pertains to their area.
Cultural Academic Enrichment Program (CAEP)
The CAEP is an after school program offered across the province. The program operates during the school year (September – May). The program works with community by providing cultural understanding, tutoring and enhancement of skills within a safe environment.
CAEP motto and guiding principle: “BEE Supportive of Our CAEPs From A to Z: One + Two = Three Black Families & Educators Strengthen Learning”
REP Provincial Spelling Bee
A community-based province-wide activity (open to African Nova Scotian students and any student enrolled in a CAEP) outside regular school curriculum sponsored by the Black Educators Association’s (BEA) Regional Educators Program (REP) and Cultural Academic Enrichment Programs (CAEPs) supported by corporate donations.
The purpose of the REP Provincial Spelling BEE is to focus on English language basics; foster learning of African Nova Scotian students studying the English language; and introduce and encourage students to compete in regional, national and international finals.
Math Camp
For Grade 7/8 Students. Dalhousie University and the Black Educators Association have teamed up to develop an exciting program. A five day math/science camp will be help during the month of July at Dalhousie University.
Participants: Thirty (30) girls and boys, ages 13 to 15, who show promise in Math will be invited to attend this camp. Participants will live on campus during the week, and will be provided with meals.
Program: The program will emphasize problem-solving skills and applications of mathematics to common everyday living. Instructors are chosen from the public school system, the universities, and the professional community.
